Who we are

SomeWine is operated by VTS Solutions, a company registered in the Netherlands.

What data we collect

We collect only the data needed to provide the SomeWine app and improve it over time.

Account & profile

• Email address and password (used to create and secure your account)
• Name, username, and optional bio and profile photo
• Country and language preference

Wine & cellar data

• Wines you add to your cellar: name, winery, vintage, quantity, purchase price, drinking window, and personal notes
• Label photos you upload for your own wines
• Tasting results, lesson scores, and learning progress
• Wines you consume, including the date and your feedback (too young / perfect / past peak)

Social activity

• Posts you share on the activity feed, including any photos and captions
• Comments and likes you make on other users' posts
• Follow relationships between users

Device & usage data

• Push notification device token (iOS or Android), used solely to deliver notifications you have enabled
• App preferences stored locally on your device (sounds, haptics)
• Advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS), and app events such as app opens and completed subscription purchases. Collected only if you allow tracking when your device asks, and shared with Meta to measure which advertisements bring people to SomeWine. See Advertising and measurement below.

Location (optional)

If you grant location permission, we use your approximate location to fetch local weather conditions via Apple WeatherKit. This improves wine-pairing suggestions. We do not store your precise location on our servers.

How we use your data

We use your data to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the SomeWine app and website
• Identify wines from label photos you scan (processed by Google Gemini AI)
• Generate personalised wine lessons and tasting notes
• Show your cellar, journal, and learning progress
• Enable social features such as the activity feed, comments, and follows
• Send push notifications you have chosen to receive
• Measure the effectiveness of our advertising, if you allow tracking
• Comply with our legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data.

Advertising and measurement

We advertise SomeWine on Meta platforms (Facebook and Instagram). To understand which advertisements actually lead people to install the app and subscribe, the app includes the Meta SDK, which sends Meta a limited set of events: that the app was opened, and that a subscription was purchased, along with its amount and currency.

On iOS this only happens with your permission. The first time you open the app, your device asks whether SomeWine may track you across apps and websites. If you decline, your advertising identifier is not shared and Meta receives only aggregated, non-identifying measurement through Apple's SKAdNetwork. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking on your device.

We do not use this data to build advertising profiles ourselves, and we never share your cellar, tasting notes, or social activity with Meta. Meta acts as an independent controller for the data it receives; see the Meta Privacy Policy for how they process it.

Legal basis (GDPR)

We process your personal data on the following legal grounds:

• Performance of a contract: processing your account data, cellar, and learning progress is necessary to provide the service you signed up for.
• Legitimate interest: improving the app, preventing abuse, and ensuring security.
• Consent:analytics cookies (Google Analytics), location access, push notifications, and advertising measurement via the advertising identifier. You can withdraw consent for analytics at any time by clicking "Decline" in the cookie banner or clearing your browser's local storage. Location, notification, and tracking consent can be withdrawn through your device settings.
• Legal obligation: where required by applicable law.

Third-party services

To operate SomeWine we share data with the following processors. Each is bound by a data processing agreement or equivalent safeguards.

Label images sent to Google Gemini are processed to identify wines and are not used to train Google's models under our agreement.

Text recognition from wine label photos (OCR) is performed entirely on your device using Apple's ML Kit and is never transmitted.

Data transfers outside the EEA

Some of our processors (Google Gemini, Cloudflare R2) operate infrastructure outside the European Economic Area. Where this is the case, transfers are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, or by equivalent safeguards under GDPR Chapter V.

Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service.

• When you delete your account, your profile, cellar, posts, and tasting history are permanently deleted within 30 days.
• Wine label images in Cloudflare R2 are deleted when you remove the associated wine or delete your account.
• Push notification device tokens are removed when you log out or delete your account.
• Aggregated, non-identifiable usage statistics may be retained indefinitely.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: request a copy of the data we hold about you.
• Rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate data.
• Erasure: ask us to delete your data (right to be forgotten).
• Restriction: ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
• Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interest.
• Withdraw consent: withdraw location or notification consent at any time via your device settings.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@somewine.app. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) at autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.

Children

SomeWine is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will notify you via a notice in the app or by email. Continued use of SomeWine after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
